What is a Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher?  

A Certified Iyengar Yoga Teacher is held to unusually rigorous standards, earning their certification after years of dedicated practice, training, and evaluation by trained, qualified assessors. They know how to guide students of all ages and abilities.  They have a deep-seated understanding and experience of the yoga asanas (postures) allow them to teach appropriately to the group in front of them, whether they are younger, older, athletic, or have physical limitations. 

What can I expect in an Iyengar Yoga class?

An Iyengar Yoga class will be created around a sequence of asana, postures, specific to that class.  This sequence will have a theme or focus. The sequencing varies from class to class and week to week.  As a beginner you will begin with standing poses.  As time moves on you will move on to forward bends, back bends, twists, inversions, and restorative poses. Every sequence will develop strength, stamina, concentration, coordination, flexibility, and more.  These sequences promote health and skill in the body and stability in the mind.
